What is CentOS?

CentOS Linux was for many years the default free enterprise server operating system, a community rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. CentOS 7 is the final CentOS Linux release.

It remains useful for legacy applications that expect a CentOS 7 environment. For new deployments we recommend a supported successor such as AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux.
